About Kullu

Formerly renowned as Kulanthpitha, which means 'the ending point of inhabitable world', this fabulous valley has always been a thriving destination for long. Kullu was not an easily accessible place till independence, which helped to preserve its unspoiled charm and centuries old tradition. A cluster of beautiful valleys, Kullu presents an enjoyable tourist spot where one can feel the rejuvenating warmth of the Mother Nature.

Bestowed with profound natural resources, Kullu valley offers everything that fascinates the touristís imagination. The awe-inspiring landscapes, friendly people with varied culture and traditions makes Kullu a favourite picnic spot. Challenging opportunities of trekking, river rafting and mountaineering are another attributable enthrallments of this gorgeous valley. Words would not suffice to explain the downright excitement of tossing down from the sky, paragliding over subterranean mountain defiles, rafting in the deafening crystalline water, or hiking the glaciers and mountain acmes of Himalayas.

At an altitude of 1230 meter, this valley of gods commands the beauty of the nature at its zenith. Its picturesque settings, especially the snow clad mountain peaks, verdant grassy fields, soaring deodar jungles, dazzling rivers and the apple coppices are awe inspiring spectacles.

Location : Kullu is located in the central part of the state of Himachal Pradesh ,India. It is located at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level at the confluence of Beas and Sarvari rivers. It is 240 km north of Shimla.

Climate : The weather in Kullu is alpine. Summers (April-June) are mild and winters are cold (November-February). It experiences southwestern monsoon rains in July-September.

Getting there :
Air: The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, which is 10 km south of Kullu. Bhuntar is well connected to Delhi by air, and there are daily flights between them operated by Archana Airlines and Jagson Airlines with a stopover at Shimla

Train:The nearest railway sataion is at Jogindernagar (95 km).

Road: The bus station is located near the banks of river Sarvari. Kullu has a good bus service for Shimla, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mandi, Manali, Manikaran, Nagar, Bajura, and Dharamsala. The Taxi stand is located near the National Highway 21, and one can get taxi for Delhi, Shimla, Manali, Mandi, Manikaran, and Dharamsala.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit Kullu is in summers, between April and June. It is also visited in October during the Dussehra festival.
